Eric Guaglione had the benefit of growing up in Los Angeles a few doors away from a retired Disney Animator. The influence rubbed off – Eric completed his first traditionally animated film in the 5th grade. Later he graduated from the UCLA Film School in Los Angeles, and has since been actively working in Visual Effects and Feature Animation for over 27 years.
Eric’s professional career began in visual effects before CG imagery was utilized, working with miniatures, matte paintings, and motion control for films including Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Gremlins, Twilight Zone: The Movie, and one of Eric’s favorites, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.
Returning to his passion for animation, Eric was hired as an animator at Digital Productions, one of the first companies to produce digital feature films and effects in the early 1990’s. Since then Eric has remained engaged with CG in a capacity of Animation and VFX Supervision. He supervised on the Star Trek franchise for over 5 years, including Star Trek: Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager, for which he was also nominated an Emmy Award for the Opening Title Sequence. Eric also worked on the feature film Star Trek Generations as a Sequence Visual Effects Supervisor. He was then Animation Director on American Werewolf in Paris before returning to his character animation roots, joining Walt Disney Feature Animation. For Disney, Eric worked on several projects over a period of nearly nine years, where he supervised CG Animation for the films Mulan, Lilo and Stitch, and the unreleased CG character film, My Peoples.
Eric joined Animal Logic in 2008 as Head of Animation, a studio-wide position across Feature Animation, VFX and TVC divisions – and also played an active role on projects, including Pre-Production Animation Direction for the upcoming animated film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, and a Sequence Animation Director on Knowing.
Eric is currently Director and Supervising Director at Rovio Entertainment in Helsinki, Finland.
